We had a couple of cold days here in Jersey this winter (2013), Enough to freeze the water over Mill Creek Marsh in Secaucus, NJ. There was still a small flow of water in the middle of the marsh, I left the camera bag on the bank, and took a small camera with me. The width of this "river" is no more than 2 feet (60cm) at most. It is the wide angle that's responsible for this look. I was lying on the ice with my hands extended forward, trying to get the camera as close as possible to the water without sliding in. There was never any danger of drowning etc. this place is not deep, but the mud is sticky and stinky and the water is cold - as I discovered quite a few times.
